INSURANCE OF GOODS IN TRANSIT
FAQs
Cargo transport insurance is a type of insurance product that protects goods against losses or damages that occur during their transportation.
Cargo transport insurance provides financial stability to the business. It helps manage risks and conduct business with fewer worries. It compensates for financial losses incurred during the transit of goods under the policy.
Only dry agricultural goods may be eligible for free insurance, within the budget limit available by Appload. In each case, Appload and Hollard will confirm if the type of goods and the type of transport (route, trucks, etc.) are eligible for free insurance.
Here are the three types of cargo insurance available, along with the corresponding events they cover:
- Basic Insurance: Covers Fire, Collision, and Overturning.
- Basic Insurance + Theft: Covers Fire, Collision, Overturning, and Theft.
- Multi risk insurance. Please contact Hollard for the detailed policy for each type of insurance.
Regardless of the type of insurance you subscribe to, the cargo insurance does not cover the following:
- Intentional misconduct by the insured.
- Normal leakage, loss in weight or volume.
- Inadequate packaging or preparation.
- Delay.
- Financial insolvency or default or absence of employees.
- Malicious damage.
- Nuclear weapons.
- Inadequate transport.
- War, Terrorism, Strikes & Riots.
The cargo transport insurance premium is calculated based on several factors, such as:
- The value of the goods.
- The type of goods and their risk level.
- The route and mode of transport (land, sea, air).
- The duration of the transport.
- The insured's claims history.
A deductible is the initial amount that the insured must pay in the event of a claim. The insured pays the deductible amount for each claim, and if the loss is less than the deductible, the insurer does not make any payment.
